Theotice (Henderson) Cheek

Theotice Henderson Cheek, 76, “Tee”, as she was warmly known, was born December 25, 1939 to the late Lottie Thomas Henderson and Mary Ethel Hargrove Henderson. She passed away peacefully in Henderson on December 13, 2016. She was educated in the Warren County public schools, and attended Warren County Training School in Wise. In 1961 she received a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham. She taught in the Warren County school system before relocating to Chicago Ill., where she also taught at Governors State College and the YMCA Community College. In 2003 after retiring, Theotice returned to North Carolina, where she continued to be committed to serving in the community and making a difference. She was on the Restoration Committee for the WCTS/NWHS Alumni Association, a member of Wise Ruritan Club, NAACP and AARP. Theotice was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Alvin” Cheek, and brother, Samuel Henderson. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Level United Church of Christ, 5631 Jacksontown Road, Manson, NC. She is lovingly survived by: her son: Rickey Andre Henderson (Donnis); daughter: Trevaughn Bonsetta Cheek (Roderick); and grandchildren: Joyous Hughley, Ricky Hughley, Mahlon Henderson, Sharon Henderson, Jasmine Richard, Kevan Henderson and Nathaniel Henderson; Gerrin Johari Cheek, Kweli Aisha Cheek and Jomo KenYatta Cheek; great-grandchildren, Nya Butler and Nathan Prescott; a special nephew, James Brame, Jr.; stepsister, Hattie Yancey; special friend: Barbara.
