Nancy Williams
May 5, 1928 ~ December 14, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years OldBlessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine, O what a foretaste of Glory Divine.” I, Nancy Willis Williams was born May 5, 1928 in Warrenton, North Carolina, the youngest of three children of the late Thomas Williams and Pattie Louise Nicholson Williams.
I was educated in the Warren County School System, graduating from John R. Hawkins High School.
At an early age, I accepted Christ as my personal savior and became a member of the Spring Green Baptist Church. I joined the Choir, Baptist Training Union (B.T.U.) and was an active Sunday School member.
In 1948, I moved to Brooklyn, New York, but did not forget my “Country Home.” I would return often to visit my favorite Uncle and Aunt, the late Herman and Zelma Nicholson, whom I loved dearly.
After moving to Brooklyn, but never forgetting my Christian upbringing, I joined the Cornerstone Baptist Church under Pastor Sandy K. Ray, where I was a member of the Gospel Chorus, Sunday School, Kitchen Committee and North Carolina Club. After the passing of Pastor Ray, I became a member of Bethany Baptist Church under the Pastor, Reverend Dr. William Augustus Jones, Jr. While at Bethany, I was a member of the Bereaved Choir, North Carolina Club, Kitchen Committee and the Saturday Search, remaining until returning to Warrenton.
I was gainfully employed by Manufacturers Hanover Trust Bank at 4 New York Plaza. My job responsibilities included checking re-routing and transferring large monies throughout the country. After 25 years of service, I retired in 1990. In 1997, I returned to Warrenton and rejoined Spring Green. I was an active member of B.T.U., Sunday School, Senior Choir, Kitchen Committee, Missionary and Finance Committee. I was also active in the Senior Citizens affairs, including SHIIP.
I thank God for my loved ones whom include: one niece, Beverly W. Hightower of Brooklyn, New York; one great-nephew, James White of Brooklyn, New York; a step-daughter, Lila Jordan of Brooklyn, New York; an adopted mom, Minnie R. White of Manson, North Carolina; cousins, church family, other relatives and friends.
On Thursday, December 14, 2017, God gently closed my loving eyes, and said, “Nancy,
Well Done, Thou Good and Faithful Servant.” I was met at the Heavenly Gates by my parents, siblings; and a very special friend, Harvey R. Alston.
