Edward A. Simmons, III
November 5, 1920 ~ August 10, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old
Mr. Edward Arthur Simmons III, was born to Mary Pinckney and Edward Simmons,II on November 5, 1920 in New York, New York, and departed this life on August 10, 2017.
Edward grew up as a talented, bright, handsome but quiet young man and attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City, graduating in 1938.
Ed was drafted into the US Army during World War II, where his talents were quickly recognized. He was given variously responsibilities in management and social work. He was decorated with numerous war medals and later honorably discharged by the end of World Wars II. Following his discharge, Ed matriculated through New York University and Harvard Business School graduating in 1950.
Ed was passionate about the game of Tennis and was an avid player and attended his favorite event (the U.S. Open) every year until 2015. He was also very interested in the Opera and held season tickets to the Metropolitan Opera in New York until he was 93 years old.
He was a member of Unitarian Universalist Association where he was commitment to the Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism and was a Trustee-at- Large from 1987 to 1995 all while being a long standing member of the UUA Congregation at Shelter Rock since 1967. In 2016, Edward gave his life to Christ and was baptized with his grandson Jackson.
Edward married Mary Elizabeth Davis of Warrenton, North Carolina on February 1, 1958. to this union two beautiful daughters were born. Christina and Catherine.

Graveside services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Davis Somervillle Familly Cemetery in Warrenton, NC with a viewing from 9am-10am at the R.H. Greene Funeral Home Chapel.
Edward A. Simmons, III leaves family and many friends who will remember him with the Greatest affection, including Mary Simmons, his daughter, Catherine Smith, his grandchildren, Jackson and Mikhaila; his sister, Edna Coggins (101 years old); his son-in- law, Darrell Smith, and brother in law, William Coggins, his sisters-in- law, Vivian Lynch and Carolyn Allen, and his brother-in- law, Odell Allen; His nephews, Gregory Chisholm, Brian Allen, Stephen Allen; His Godchildren, Glen Hunter and Shauna Singletary Williams and a host of other relatives and friends.
