During this moment of mixed emotions, R. H. Greene Funeral Home is offering comfort and compassion to the loved ones of Mr. William Merritt, of Raleigh, North Carolina who transitioned on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at the Raleigh Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of R. H. Greene Funeral Home.  Reverend Cheryl Bell-Hyman will officiate.

He leaves to cherish his memories:  his wife, Frances Debnam Merritt of Raleigh, North Carolina; two children, William D. Merritt and Franshuna Merritt, both of Raleigh, North Carolina; his step-daughter, Jamisha Alston Cowan (John) of Raleigh, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; six sisters, Janice Squirewell and Angielene Merritt, both of Raleigh, North Carolina, Lauren Bowie (Glasco) of Bladensburg, Maryland, Gertrude Bailey (Elmo) of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Gloria Jones (Clanton) of Youngsville, North Carolina and Sandra Merritt of District Heights, Maryland; three brothers, Alonza Merritt (Gloria), James Merritt (Clara) and Randy Merritt, all of Raleigh, North Carolina; an adopted brother, Donald Lee Gill of Louisburg, North Carolina; his father-in-law, Elonza Lynch, Sr. (Pearl) of Franklinton, North Carolina; three sisters in law, Jackie Lynch of Franklinton, North Carolina, Joyce Lynch (Keith) and Shirley Morgan, both of Wake Forest, North Carolina; three brothers in law, Elonza Lynch, Jr. (Valerie) of Franklinton, North Carolina, Walter Morgan of Wake Forest, North Carolina and David Morgan of New York, New York; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
