William Henry Alston, Jr. (Bill Jr.) of Norlina, N.C., was born to the late Mr. William H.

Alston, Sr., and Mrs. Lizzie Mae Goode-Alston. He departed this life on April 30, 2017, at

Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson, N.C. He looked up toward “Heaven” raised his arms and

peacefully passed away with family members at his side.

Bill, Jr. was educated in Warren County Public Schools. He left the area to work at Rutherford

Regional Medical Center in Rutherfordton, N.C. He also worked at John Dore Service Station in

Norlina, N.C., and the Henderson Cotton Mill, in Henderson, N.C. His part time job was

painting, but it was also a hobby he enjoyed. Bill Jr. loved fishing, playing his guitar, and art.

Back in the days, he was known as “Steel Bill.”

He loved the Lord and his family. He was very active in helping raise his nieces, nephews and

younger cousins. Bill Jr. enjoyed teaching the children how to read the Bible, and helped with

their homework. They enjoyed going to his house playing and eating. Bill Jr. did not have any

biological children of his own, but he formed very special relationships and impacted their lives

greatly.

Bill Jr. leaves to cherish his memory two sisters: Nora Lena (Linword Terry), and Dianne Miller;

three aunts: Ms. Lillian Mooney, Minister Frances Ragland, Rev. Lillie B. Goode; a special

cousin: Rev. Dr. Carrie M. Spruill, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and long-time

friends.

“A THOUSAND WORDS WILL NOT BRING YOU BACK,

I KNOW BECAUSE I’VE TRIED. NEITHER WILL A THOUSAND

TEARS, I KNOW BECAUSE I HAVE CRIED.

REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER AND TAKE YOUR REST,

WE LOVE YOU BUT GOD LOVES YOU BEST.”

“Dianne”
