Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine. This is my story, this is my song, praising my savior all the day long. With compassion, R. H. Greene Funeral Home is standing with the relatives of Mrs. Rose Russell Wynn age 98 of Hyattsville, Maryland.
Rose, wife of the late Albert F. Wynn, departed this mortal coil on October 13, 2025. The eldest child of John Wesley Russell and Bella Russell, she entered the world scrawny, screaming and determined on March 24, 1927, in Ridgeway, North Carolina. A bookish and hardworking farm girl, Rose was the first in her family to attend college at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. There she was a yearbook editor and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
Rose began her professional life as an English teacher in segregated schools in North Carolina. Ever ambitious, early in her career Rose won a national teacher’s competition and was awarded a summer long fellowship in Ghana. She later continued teaching in Prince George's County, Maryland, during which time she earned her master’s degree.
A highly regarded educator, Rose positively impacted the lives of thousands of students. What began as a “side hustle” selling houses part time to new home buyers, soon led to a career change and surprising success as a full -time realtor. Rose often said her greatest pleasure was helping people achieve their dream of home ownership.
Rose was always active in her community, a founding Member of the county's first AKA Alumni Chapter, member of the Kiwanis Club and volunteer Bible reader at her local senior center. She was a proud member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Glenarden, MD.
Rose was blessed with a long and rewarding life. Leaving to mourn her passing is a son Albert Wynn (Susan), daughter Ellee Wynn Briscoe, beloved play daughter Joan Spruill, Grandchildren, Gary Jr. (Tina), Gabrielle, Zachary, Zoe, great grandchildren, Elijah, Isaiah, Christian, Sterling, Jordan and Titus along with a host of dear friends and well-wishers.
A Graveside Celebration of Life will be conducted on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the CS Wynn Family Cemetery on Highway 43 in the Liberia Community, Warrenton, North Carolina. The family will gather at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. to depart to cemetery.
