Reverend Naomi Edwards Folkes was born June 13, 1934 in Warren County, North Carolina to the late George and Ruth Edwards and departed this life in the stillness of the evening on November 19, 2019. Reverend Folkes gave her life to Christ at an early age. Through prayer, resilience, and studying, she received her Bachelors of Business Administration from Shaw University in 1957 and was a New York state employee for over thirty years, retiring in 1994. She was a faithful servant to the church and worked in numerous positions locally and in the district. Upon relocation to North Carolina in 1997, she began regular worship with The Whites Grove Christian Church and was later ordained as a Reverend in 1998. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who would go above and beyond to love, provide, and protect. Her heart was genuine and her loving and nurturing spirit was felt by all who met her. “The Queen”, which she was commonly referred to by those who loved her is survived by her only child, Judith Marie Handy, three golden granddaughters, Catherine Shantel Smithzer, Jacee NAOMI Crawford (Sekedria), Alexis Charlece Crawford, one great grandchild, Ava NAOMI Jarmon, three sisters, Mary Justice, Elizabeth Fields, Sherry Alston, two brothers, Issac Samuel Edwards, Melvin Edwards, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
