Lillie Gertrude Hawkins

Legendary Warren County English Teacher, Mrs. Lillie Gertrude Hawkins, 96, peacefully parted this life on Monday, March 22, 2021 at her home in Warrenton, North Carolina. 

Mrs. Hawkins served the Warren County Public School System for 40 years as an English and French Teacher at John R. Hawkins High School, John Graham Senior High School, Warren County High School.

Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her two children, William “Bill” Hawkins of Los Angeles, CA and Germaine “Gerri” Hawkins of Raleigh, NC; two nephews, Douglas Leon Faulkner of Wake Forest, NC and Roy Faulkner of Henderson, NC; one niece, Barbara Jean Grindley of Kennebunk, Maine; one brother in law, Mr. Quincy Hawkins of Weldon, NC;  three sisters in law, Mrs. Virginia P. Faulkner of Macon, NC; Mrs. Margaret B. Hawkins of Weldon, NC, and Mrs. Eva Hawkins of Rocky Mount, NC and a host of extended family, former colleagues, and close friends.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 1:00pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Macon, North Carolina.  The Reverend Preston Williams, Jr., will deliver the eulogy.  Interment will take place at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery in Macon, North Carolina.

Mrs. Hawkins will lie in repose in the chapel of R. H. Greene Funeral Home on Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
