With profound sorrow, the management and staff are standing with the relatives and friends of Mr. James Alexander "Bird" Pettaway, age 58 of Manson, North Carolina. Mr. Pettaway transitioned on Thursday, October 3, 2024 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Freedom Life Church of God in Henderson, North Carolina. The Reverend James Pettaway, Sr. will deliver the eulogy and interment will follow in the Oak Level United Church of Christ Cemetery in Manson, North Carolina.
Everlasting memories will forever be cherished by: his wife, Barbara Spruill Pettaway of the home; two sons, Damian Pettaway of Manson, North Carolina and Shakilvin Pettaway of Henderson, North Carolina; a goddaughter raised as his own, Shronda Robertson (Louis) of Burlington, North Carolina; his mother, Elizabeth "Gracie" Pettaway of Manson, North Carolina; one brother, Michael Pettaway (Lisa) of Chesterfield, Virginia; a cousin raised as his sister, Carolyn Paschall of Greenbelt, Maryland; two adopted brothers, James Pettaway, Jr. (Constance) and Kenton "Ron" Pettaway, both of Manson, North Carolina; special godchildren, Nyketra Bullock, Bradley Davis, George Terry, Erica Lockhart, Janae Jackson and Caron Perry; special adopted children, Keymiyah, Mashaih, Nyaria, Jasmine, Aikita, Saniya, Amira, Marqueze, Cedric, Trashard, Jasimine, Daysha and Dasha; his mother-in-law, Mary Helen Spruill of Manson, North Carolina; two brothers-in-law, Kelvin Jones of Richmond, Virginia and James Spruill of Manson, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Doris Wilson and Laura Alston (Maurice), both of Manson, North Carolina; two aunts, Bettie Paschall of Washington, D.C. and Patsy Chase of Manson, North Carolina; two uncles, Albert Hawkins of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Thurston Quinchette of Middleburg, North Carolina; special friends, Charles Lynch, Percell Williams, Frank Williams, Calvin Boyd and John Falcon; his adopted family which included the Vance County Bus Drivers, Nathaniel G. Yarbrough and staff at R. H. Greene Funeral Home; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Mr. Pettaway will lie in repose on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at R. H. Greene Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors and friends at the home, located at 541 Bullocksville Park Road, Manson, North Carolina.
