Freddie Watson Burton

Freddie Watson Burton, son of the late Moses and Jannie Burton was born September 10, 1938 in Warren County, North Carolina. He departed this life and went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 19, 2019 in Durham, North Carolina.

“Joe” as he was called by everyone who knew and loved him, accepted Christ at an early age and joined the New Bethel Baptist Church. He received his formal education in the public schools of Warren County.

In 1962, he was married to the former Catherine Talley and this union was blessed with three children.

“Joe” was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Clara Mae Adams, Edna Burton, Alma Burton Harris, Betty Jiggetts and Ella Taylor; eight brothers, Robert E. Burton, Nathaniel Burton, Richard Burton, Moses Burton, Robert “Cook” Burton, James E. Burton, Percy Burton and Malvin Burton.

Those left to cherish fond memories are: his wife of fifty-seven years, Catherine Burton of the home; two daughters, Wanda Burton of Henderson, North Carolina and Sheila Burton of Bronx, New York; one son, Jerome Burton of Durham, North Carolina; five wonderful grandchildren, Ryan Akins, Jarrell Akins, Whitley Akins, Solomyn Burton and Caleb Burton; two amazing great-granddaughters, Ny’Asia and Ny’Shayla Akins; one sister, Mattie Taylor of Greensboro, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Lizzie Burton of Baltimore, Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,other relatives and friends.
