Deacon Carter transitioned on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at the Oxford Care and Rehabilitation Center in Oxford, North Carolina.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Warren County Middle School Gymnasium. The Reverend Dr. Lamonte Williams will officiate and interment will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Wise, North Carolina.
Everlasting memories will forever be cherished by: nine children, Mildred Hendricks of Warrenton, North Carolina, Reverend James Carter, Jr., (Alean) of Copake, New York, Thelma Carter (Herbert) of Norlina, North Carolina, Robert Carter (LaGretta) of Wise, North Carolina, Deacon Roy Carter, Sr. (Catherine) of Norlina, North Carolina, Yolanda Carter of Waldorf, Maryland, Jackie Lassiter of Phenix City , Alabama, Eric Carter (Jamilla) of Waldorf, Maryland and Derek Carter (Mary) of Warrenton, North Carolina; twenty seven grandchildren, forty nine great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Alberta Carter of Concord, North Carolina, Betty Carter of Brooklyn, New York and Mildred Hendricks of Richmond, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Eddie Mack Hendricks of Richmond, Virginia; special friends, Joseph Foster, Craig Allen, Harvey "Sponge" Robinson, Barbara Royster, Ann Foster and William Carter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends in the Music Ministry, and the community at large.
Deacon Carter will lie in repose on Friday, January 30, 2026 in the chapel of R. H. Greene Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The family will receive visitors and friends at the home of Roy Carter, Sr., 715 Manson Axtell Road, Norlina, North Carolina.
