Mrs. Dorthy Somerville Jones, 90  Departed this life on Sunday, January 7, 2018 “Dot” as she was affectionately called by family and friends was born May 18, 1927 in Manson, North Carolina and was the second of twelve children born to the late Percy and Beulah Somerville.

At an early age, she confessed Christ as her personal savior and joined the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member until her health began to decline.

She obtained her formal education in the public schools of Warren County, North Carolina.

In 1946, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Clarence Jones. This union was blessed with four children, three of whom preceded her in death – Glenn and Zelda, both in 2009 and Herbert in 2012.

After marriage, the family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While living in Philadelphia, Dot

worked as a seamstress at Joseph H. Cohen and as a caregiver for Bayada Nursing Services.

Once retiring, Dot returned to North Carolina, reinstated her membership at Mt. Pleasant. For several years, she continued her love for nursing and worked at KNG Family Home in Warrenton and the Littleton Senior Center.

Funeral Services will be conducted 1pm Saturday, January 13, 2018 from the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Manson, Pastor Richard Henderson will officiate and burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

In addition to her parents, husband and children, she was preceded in death by: four siblings, Henry Young Somerville, James Somerville, Janet Somerville and Hattie Marie Wilson.

Dot’s curtain has closed but loving memories will forever be cherished by: her son, Bobby Jones (Patty) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a special goddaughter, Dottie Somerville of Macon, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Monique Ross (Sam) of California, Anthony Jones (Sylvia), Tanisha Jones Herbert Jones,II., Dominique Jones and Naleemah Mason all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; ten great-grandchildren;five sisters, Jessie Holland Of Forestdale, Massachusetts, Mary “Baby Mae” Muse, Virginia “Dare”Moore, Luna Davis (Mearmon), all of Warrenton, North Carolina, Joan “Jeanetta” Henderson (John) of Norlina, North Carolina; one brother, Willie Somerville of Macon, North Carolina; one brother-in- law, Julian Jones of Warrenton, North Carolina; three sisters-in- law, Francis Somerville of Oxford, North

Carolina, Frances McNair of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Mell Jones of Vaughan, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs Jones may be viewed on Friday from 11am to 7pm at R.H Greene Funeral Home.
